World of Barbie: Unique Room Designs

Career-Oriented Room Designs

The World of Barbie, an immersive touring experience built around a simple theme: empowering girls to follow their dreams and inspiring them through play. As the lead designer of the project, I’d like to take you room by room through this unique branded attraction, currently open in Santa Monica, California. The show features a range of career-oriented rooms, each with its own distinct design, including the Music Production Studio, Barbie Space Center, Science Center, Fashion Studio, Museum of Barbie, TV Center, and Interior Design Studio.

Barbie Space Center

The Barbie Space Center is designed as a space shuttle, with curved walls, stripes of bright LED lighting, and a massive interactive window screen that lets visitors explore galaxies and feel as if they are traveling from one to the next. Every seat is reserved for one of the characters, and infinity floors reflect the limitlessness of the universe beneath visitors’ feet.

Fashion Studio

In the Fashion Studio, visitors can strut down the runway like fashion models and step into different “doll boxes,” each styled after an inspirational career: a tennis superstar, a filmmaker, or even a mermaid. The show strikes a fun balance between not taking yourself too seriously and celebrating limitless potential.

TV Studio

In the TV Studio, visitors can imagine what it’s like to work on a breaking news channel, deliver the weather forecast, or interview notable people.

Interior Design Studio

The Interior Design Studio is divided into several “pods,” each interactively transformed from one space into another, encouraging visitors to get creative with their own designs.

Museum of Barbie

Inside the Museum of Barbie, visitors can learn the story behind Barbie’s creator and how the brand has evolved over the decades. The museum also displays Barbie dolls inspired by remarkable women, such as Frida Kahlo and Eleanor Roosevelt, along with an exact replica of the first-ever Dreamhouse, built with meticulous attention to detail. One highlight is a vintage television that plays classic Barbie commercials.

Music Production Studio

The Music Production Studio features a clear acrylic mixing table with a glowing sign inside, along with several recording booths. Lined with highly reflective metallic panels and all-white instruments, the studio feels uniform and high-tech. The floor is a custom holographic pattern inspired by musical waves, and the walls are decorated with dozens of identical speakers.

Science Center

In the Science Center, visitors can learn about the periodic table through play, color Barbie dolls with a Rube Goldberg-style machine, and explore with microscopes.
